“A sincere artist is not one who makes a faithful attempt to put on to canvas what is in front of him, but one who tries to create something which is, in itself, a living thing,” William Dobell once said. It was this expr e s s i on whi c h bought the Ethos Art Gallery to life. Playing host to painting of various artists, it is currently buzzing with activity.
Paintings from artists like Amit Bhar, Chaitalli Mallick, Dewashish Das, Jagannath Paul, Manjunath Hassan, Prakash G Nayak, Ramesh Gorjala, Subrata Das, Suni l V Mathat, Sukanta Das, Manjunath H Lakshman and Varna Sindhu are being exhibited.
The exhibition, titled ‘Realm of beauty’ reflected variety of traditional, contemporary, abstract, figurative, vernacular and spiritual expressions.
The paintings speak of the humanitarian aspect to various emotions. By using bright colours and bold strokes, the artists have tried to convey a story. Artists Manjunath H Lakshman’s work speak of his random thoughts. His works are largly abstract and the colours red, orange and yellow take centerstage.
However, at the same time Jagannath Paul has chosen to work with shades of greys and black and some bold storkes in red which speak of hope. His work brought the drama of black and white by introducing solid blocks of paint. Similarly artist Prakash G Nayak has shown inclination towards blues. His works are dashing expression of form in an interesting twist in the way of conveying the thought process.
