Another collapse kills 2 at Prestige complex

BANGALORE: Prestige Shantinikethan, an under-construction residential-commercial township, got mired in another controversy after two more persons died when a car-parking complex collapsed inside the premises on Monday evening.

The deceased workers have been identified as Prasanjith Bohra (26) and Sanjeev Dutt (25), both natives of West Bengal. Another worker, Kailash Paswan (25), from Uttar Pradesh, was injured and admitted to a nearby hospital, Deputy Commissioner (South–East) Soumendu Mukherjee said.

Around 20 workers were at the subway construction site in the car parking complex, near the main Shantiniketan building when the incident happened. The soil and the cement mixture caved in while they were doing the centering work of the subway, he said.

BBMP officials also rushed to the spot and verified the facts. “This is a case of pure negligence.

They haven't taken any precautions even after the earlier collapse, which occurred in the last week of October.We would be able to book Irfan Razack, the chairman of Prestige Group, under sections of the IPC for negligence only if the BBMP officials file a case against him,” Mukherjee said.

The Kadugodi police have arrested seven persons, including Ashok Saproo, the Vice President and Project-in-chief, Prestige Group, Muralidhar Rao, General Manager and Project in-charge, Prestige Group, Nanda Kishore, General Manager and Project in-charge, IJM. Basawaraju and Adhikari, the contractors have also been arrested, police commissioner Shankar Bidari told Express.

Razack’s name has also been included in the FIR and police are investigating the case, he said.

Past tense On October 23, the 15th floor of the C tower in the Prestige Shantiniketan complex had collapsed along with the lower floors.

The body of a 'missing person' Munna Katwa (23), a native of Orissa, was found in the debris on November 12.
