A new star on the block

Meet Saritha Jain from Moodabidre who is set to become an actress in Kannada films. She won the title ‘Miss Moodabidre’ in the year 2000.

“I was very happy to win the title.

I was declared as Miss Moodabidri among the 50 girls from Bangalore, Mangalore and Moodabidre,” says Saritha with pride.

She got the chance to act as Ganesh’s sister in the film Challaata, the maiden film for Ganesh as hero.

It has completed 100 days of screening at a few theatres across the state. Saritha’s beauty and acting skills made her famous by overnight.

Many producers and directors wanted her to act in their films.

“But I was not in a hurry to accept whatever comes in my way. I had to reject around 20 films because I did not want to play such roles that indulge in exposure at a drop of a hat,” says Saritha.

She made her debut as a heroine with a Tulu film Kadala Mage. She was paired with Diganth. The film was a big hit at the box office. “I did not approach any producer or director for giving me a chance to act in their films. They happen to see my photographs on a website and contacted me. I accept films that offer me a decent role,” says Saritha.

As a heroine in the Kannada film industry she is debuting with ‘Machchaa’ where she is cast opposite Jeevan. The NICE chief Ashok Kheny has also played a small role. If its posters or title indicate that it is based on a rowdies, how come Saritha has agreed to act in such a film? “Though it is based on rowdies, my character is very decent in that film. I play as a college student but never indulge in exposure or run around the trees along with the hero without a valid reason,” explains Saritha.

She considers Suhasini and Prema as her role models in Kannada films. She wanted to become another Prema of Kannada films. “I like both the heroines because they have come up with their hard work.

Both of them are known for playing decent roles in films. I would like to become another Prema in Sandalwood,’’ says Saritha.

What are Saritha’s other films? “I acted in Chikpete Saachagalu along with director-cum-artiste S Narayan. I do karate in that film.

Don’t mistake it that I indulge in fighting with Narayan. I fight only with the villains who run away after tasting my karate skills,” adds Saritha with a smile.
