BANGALORE: Chamundi Hill is one of the landmark tourist attractions of Mysore, and it never fails to fall on the itenerary of those visiting Mysore.
However beyond the fact that it is well known for its temple, Chamundi Hills is also a very peaceful place where you’ll find at the top, a lovely township where people live a humble life. Inhabitants of this village are very nice and hospitable. They seem to live at their own pace, disconected from the stressful life of the city. It is the perfect place to rest after climbing the steps of Chamundi Hills.
Actually, the main set of 1,000 steps takes anywhere between 12 to 30 minutes to climb depending on an individual’s fitness levels and provides an excellent way to increase cardio vascular fitness.
Some individuals climb only till the Nandi which is about 700 steps, then run on the downhill road to the other side of Chamundi hills for about 2 kms and climb another set of 600 steps to the top. This set of steps at the back of the hill is not very well known but provide an excellent challenge for fitness.
Groups of youngsters also tend to trek through the jungle and thickets of the Chamundi Hill Slopes to the top.
When you are climbing, keep your upper body slightly forward, back straight, eyes forward and knees soft. Be sure to wear a good pair of cross-trainers for support and to place your entire foot on each stair. Start slowly; you want your muscles, heart and lungs to adjust. When you start out, don’t be surprised if you are out of breath and your legs burn after just a few flights. A stair climbing workout doesn’t just help you to burn fat, it also improves blood circulation and strengthens the joints and lower body muscles.
