The nationwide Climate Solutions Road Tour, undertaken by Indian Youth Climate Network in association with REVA Electric Car Company, came to a successful finish recently. The journey, which commenced from Chennai on January 3,2009 covered 3500 kilometers and travelled through 15 cities across India.

The three, advance technology, next generation, solar plug-in electric REVA’s, which were part of the road tour, travelled lengths of more than 200 kilometers on Indian roads on a single charge. The cars are powered by next generation Lithium Ion Batteries and are capable of covering a maximum range of up to 200 kms per charge. Equipped with Global Positioning System, this cross-country journey is said to be the longest multiple electric car road tour ever completed.

The tour was undertaken by a group of 10 members of the Indian Youth Climate Network, accompanied by Solar Punch. The ecological caravan drove across the country highlighting the potential for a clean transport system in India and internationally. It emphasised the need to bridge the technological and infrastructural gaps to recognise this potential. It highlighted climate solutions, including the visionaries who make a difference, and the power of Indian innovation and clean technology delivering messages of hope and thereby empowering people to make a difference.

The tour is the first call to the Indian youth of its kind. It is also the launch of IYCN’s Climate Solutions project, which aims to document and communicate India’s climate solutions.
