BANGALORE: The district consumer disputes redressal forum has asked the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to pay Rs 3,000 as compensation to a passenger for an avoidable delay in completing a bus journey.

While partly allowing the complaint filed by Tharanath Shetty, a resident of Bangalore, the consumer forum observed that KSRTC has failed to discharge its service The complainant had stated that he and his mother had travelled on a KSRTC bus from Uppinangady to Bangalore on August 17, 2008.

When the bus reached Ballupet near Sakaleshpur at 3 pm, the driver of a speeding lorry suddenly opened the cabin door that hit the right side of the bus.

According to the complainant, the driver stopped the bus and chased the lorry on a motorcycle. He was finally brought back by the conductor from Sakaleshpur at 5.40 pm.

The bus reached Bangalore at 11 pm, 3 hours past its scheduled time, due to the negligence on the driver’s part, the complainant argued.

The complainant prayed for a compensation of Rs 5,000 towards mental agony, and deficiency of service by KSRTC.

The consumer forum accepted the arguments of the complainant, and observed that instead of chasing the lorry in a motorcycle the driver could have chased the lorry by bus, or he could have jotted down the registration number of lorry and informed the police.

Delay in refund costs Kingfisher airline Rs 3,000 more The fourth additional district consumer forum has directed Kingfisher airlines to pay Rs 3,000 as compensation to a passenger for delay in remitting the ticket refund amount.

While partly allowing the complaint filed by Mallikarjun R Madvala, a resident of Bangalore, the consumer forum held that the airline’s action amounted to deficiency in service.

According to the complainant he had booked five tickets in Kingfisher Airlines flight from Bellary to Bangalore on August 1, 2008 at a cost of Rs 16,643.

However, he could not able to travel on the scheduled date and had to cancel the ticket.

The airline failed to refund the ticket amount of Rs 13,625 within 14 days after cancellation of the ticket.

Even repeated requests were of no avail, the complainant argued.

During the course of the case, the airline refunded the amount and prayed for dismissal of the complaint.

However, the consumer forum found it to be deficient in service.
