BANGALORE: BMTC’s first Traffic and Transit Management Centre (TTMC) was inaugurated, finally, on Monday. The Jayanagar TTMC project was completed eight months behind the original schedule. Enforcement of the model code of conduct due to the recent Assembly Byelections had also delayed the inauguration.
Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa inaugurated the facility in the presence of a representative from the Union Urban Development Department, which has contributed to the construction of the TTMC through its JnNURM scheme, Minister for Transport R Ashok and other ministers and MLAs.
Floored
The ground floor of the four-level Jayanagar TTMC building will be used as a bus terminal. This floor will also have a BMTC control room and passenger information counter.
The first floor will have BMTC pass counters, BangaloreOne counters, rail and air ticket booking counters, post office and a food court and other passeneger amenities. The second floor will be a shopping area and the terrace will be used for parking. The building has a parking space for 60 four-wheelers and 150 two-wheelers.
The BMTC has already floated tenders for the use of shopping area.
The Jayanagar TTMC is the pilot project of the BMTC’s TTMC project.
The BMTC has planned to construct 45 TTMcs across Bangalore. Out of the 10 TTMCs planned in Phase I, Jayanagar has been thrown open to public while work on the other nine is on. Preparation of detailed project reports for another 10 TTMCs in Phase II is on.
Under the JnNURM scheme, the central government bears 35 per cent of the costs, the state government 15 per cent and the BMTC 50 per cent.
