BANGALORE: Fans of Hema Malini’s Seeta Aur Geeta can look forward to a daily dose of the blockbuster movie adapted into a TV series. NDTV Imagine’s new show, which began this week, spans 200 episodes. So now you can relive evil Chachi’s tricks and Geeta’s antics all over again — minus our Dream Girl, of course.

The role of identical twins is played by Anjorie Alagh. Director Maqbool Khan, who insists that Alagh’s innocence is her USP, says, ‘‘I actually scoured the town high and low, did more than 20 screen tests and finally decided on Anjorie.

She wasn’t involved in any other project earlier and that made it easier for us. She was innocent and…raw.’’ It was producer’s idea to adapt the movie. ‘‘He liked Seeta aur Geeta very much and we had a talk with the producers of the movie and got the rights. Hence we have retained the name.’’ Admitting that converting a three-hour movie into 200 half-hour episodes was a tall task, the director continues, ‘‘We worked around the film’s high points and built the screenplay around it. It won’t feel like a TV series, more like a 70s film.’’ There are new characters in the series, but Khan chooses to keep this under wraps. ‘‘Remember the Chacha in the movie? He was docile in the movie but here, he’s an a negative character. We also have Chachi’s brother, who is notorious and is into all kinds of strange things.’’
