Filmmaker Praveen Engineer, better known for his Telugu film Mysamma IPS in which item girl Mumaith Khan played the lead, makes his debut in Sandalwood with Abhimaani. His directorial skills are quite laudable albeit the script. The climax shows late Kannada matinee star Dr Rajkumar’s soul descending from heaven and consoling the protagonist, but as there is no dearth of people who treat the star as God this scene is well appreciated.

Music director Dharmateha has provided a good score with a host of melodious songs especially, `Nannausiru Nammooru...’.

As far as the lead actor Rahul’s performance is concerned, he has done a better job than his earlier stints. Nidhi, who plays Rahul’s love lady looks gorgeous. Srinath and Chitra Shenoy have also performed well. Their performances especially in a sequence where Srinath pleads Chitra to give him one chance is superbly hilarious.

However, the comedy sequence where Rangayana Raghu motivates one of his tenants to become a hero is disapointing.

It would have been better if the director deleted Rangayana Raghu’s character from the film with no connection between the main theme and Raghu’s comic act in the film.

Lakshmi (Tara) and Ananthu (Sharat Babu) are a couple. Lakshmi is a hardcore fan of Dr Rajkumar and wants her son to become a good singer like Dr Rajkumar. She dies soon after giving birth to Muthu (Rahul). However, Ananthu wants Muthu to become a doctor. And, Muthu and his childhood friend (Arpana) join a medical college. Meanwhile, Muthu is diagnosed with cancer. The story then revolves around how he gets cured from the deadly disease and how he realises his mother’s dream.

It is worth watching by whole family members.
