BANGALORE: Two eunuchs molested two women and beat them up on Tuesday evening in Koramangala after the women refused to give them alms, said police.

The victims, Sneha and Vidya (name changed to protect identity), were returning home after work. They had stopped at a traffic signal near Forum Mall when a eunuch came and demanded money. According to the police, when the victims refused to give money, a eunuch sexually abused one of women. Shocked, Sneha hit the eunuch back in protest.

Meanwhile, another eunuch joined in and the two kept hitting the women. All this while, people nearby remained mute spectators. The ordeal ended when an autorickshaw driver intervened and helped them escape.

The women approached a traffic constable and asked him to catch the eunuchs. The traffic constable, however, turned them down, saying it was not his job. He told them to go the regular police. The women then called the police control room wherein they were told to register a case at Koramangala police station.

“If in full public view, they [eunuchs] have the audacity to beat us up, then they can do anything,” the harassed women said.

Martin Alwaris, ACP, Airport sub-division, said he could take action only after a complaint had been lodged.

He said he would ask Koramangala police inspector to take appropriate action.

He conceded that eunuchs have become a big problem.
