BANGALORE: This year, 58 students from Bangalore managed to crack the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) for admission into Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
The results of JEE 2010, held in April, was announced on Wednesday. Of the 4.5 lakh students who took the examination, 13,104 managed to crack it and will, therefore, be eligible for the 9,000 odd seats in 15 IITs.
Anil Shanbhag topper the rankers list in the city. His allIndia rank is 38.
"I am looking forward to join either IIT Kanpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay or IIT Madras and so I am not sitting for CET counselling."
Anil, who is the son of a businessman, said he had started preparing for JEE from 9th standard itself. He said he wanted to join Indian Institute of Management after completing his engineering.
City lad Vageesh D C, from KLE Independent PU College, got allIndia rank 52.
"I used to study for 4 to 5 hours everyday, apart from attending regular college. I want to pursue electrical engineering in any of the IITs and later do research in electronics."
Shreyas C, from MES PU College, who secured 31st rank in the ST category and got 445th rank in CET medical results, said, "My aim is to join civil services after completing IIT. But right now, I want to join mechanical engineering."
Abhinav Deshpande, who secured allIndia rank 54, and A N Prajwal, who secured allIndia rank 69, are also part of the gang who made the city proud.
IIT goes online
For the first time, the IITs are conducting counselling online. The counselling website will be open from Thursday, May 27 till June 12, 2010. Candidates are required to choose their courses online.
