BANGALORE: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharath Earth Movers Limited (BEML), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and scores of such organisations have been instrumental in giving the city its industrious image and development status. But thanks to various civic agencies, their doorsteps are a total mess.

Suranjan Das Road or BEML road that connects Old Madras Road with the old airport had been the most useful connecting point on this side of town until the authorities decided to put an end to convenience here. Owing to road widening and other pipe relaying work in progress, this road resembles the site of a malicious invasion. Potholes, unscientific speed breakers, loose stones and debris seem to be a common sight. The portion of the road missing streetlights can prove to be extremely fatal for motorists at night.

The density of vehicles has increased considerably on this stretch with the setting up of Bagmane Technology Park which houses many thousands of employees who are also unwilling to ease the traffic here and insist on using their private vehicles. Added to this, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has been on a mission to cut down the trees on this road in the name of road widening. Residents in the localities, who once enjoyed a quiet living are now exposed to the heat and honking of automobiles passing by their doorsteps everyday as many vehicles have been using the service road to avoid traffic or bad patches on the stretch.
