BANGALORE,: A 25-year-old youth went missing after a car fell into Yemmalur lake near Bellandur early on Wednesday.

The missing person has been identified as Aditya Bhogaraju, a resident of Yashwantapur.

Police said he may have drowned in the lake.

According to the police, Aditya, hailing from Vellore, was working at Drishti Advertisement Agency owned by one Mohit Manjunath in Sahakaranagar.

Mohit often took his colleagues — Aditya, Vinod and Sowmya — for outings.

On Tuesday night, they had gone out and on their way back picked up Mohit’s friend, Kishore, who worked in a BPO at Murugeshpalya, police said.

At 4 am on Wednesday, when they came near Bellandur, Mohit, who was drunk and driving the car, lost control over the vehicle.

T he car fell into Yemmalur Lake, which is marshy.

Mohit, Sowmya, Vinod and Kishore managed to get out but Aditya, who was drunk and was sitting on the roof of the car, went missing after the incident, police said.

Police suspect that Aditya drowned in the lake and called the Fire department’s rescue van and staff to search for the body.

Till late on Wednesday evening, the fire personnel had not found the body.

Mohit said they picked up Kishore who was in a shift that ended at 3 am. But he refused to comment on where they had gone in the evening or where they were headed when the incident happened.

A medical test on Mohit confirmed that he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Airport traffic police have booked a drink and drive case, and rash and negligent driving case against Mohit.
