BANGALORE: Home and Transport Minister R Ashok launched the Airavat Club Class Multi axle Volvo buses at Vidhana Soudha on Saturday.
“The buses are equipped with international standard of facility and safety, giving commuters an international travel experience,” he said.
Presently, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has six multi-axle buses, which will be initially deployed on the Bangalore–Mumbai, Bangalore–Chennai and Bangalore–Hyderabad routes.
In total, 40 Airavat Club Class buses will be added to the fleet. When compared with the regular Airavat service, the seating (semisleeper), upholstery and ambience will be superior in the Club Class buses. The buses have electronic braking system to ensure the highest safety for passengers and drivers.
Also, the bus has 47 reclining seats equipped with mobile phone and laptop chargers and two high mounted drop down 26” and 19” LCD TVs.
With the slogan “Sleep like a baby even at 100-km per hour,” the corporation is targeting businessclass travellers by offering a ride to Mumbai in 17 hours and Hyderabad in 10 hours. The fares for the new bus service will vary between Rs 600 to Rs 1,300.
With this, KSRTC is now the country’s largest Volvo fleet operator with 349 buses.
