For the children

A short play. An exciting spread of stories. A session of animated reading. That’s what dominated the evening at RelianceTimeout, Cunningham Road as they presented the launch of three books in association with Unisun Publications.

The stories are from the authors of the Unisun-Reliance TimeOut Writing Competition 2008-09. Monsters Under My Bed, Angel Gabriel and Lost in Ooty are targeted at children from three to 15 years.

The book launch got off to an exciting start with inspired readings by students, Lavanya and Bhamini, and culminated in a dramatised rendering of one of the stories by the children of the Parikrma Foundation.

The fun-filled evening ended with applause for the prizewinners of the drawing competition based on the theme of the book title Monsters Under My Bed. The play was based on one of the stories from the three books. Children of the Parikrma Foundation dressed in multicoloured costumes — from frogs to ants, the children entertained the audience. ‘Flippy’ the frog is one the characters of stories which captured much audience attention. The realistic performance of the children mesmerised the spectators.

Talented, award-winning writers like Meera Guthi, Rajee Raman, Radhika D Shyam, Kavitha Mandana and Jaya Madhavan have come together in Monsters Under My Bed. Lost in Ooty is a tale about two children who go to Ooty but get lost on their way. Geralyn Pinto’s Angel Gaberiel is an adorable book as it includes fantasy, mystery and supernatural elements.
