Five held for fraud

BANGALORE: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested five persons for cheating various banks in the city to the tune of Rs20 crore.  

The accused were identified as Anoop Justin (37), Prakasha (51), Sudhakara (44) and two techies, identified as L Sridhar (42) and Srinath (33). According to the police, the accused committed the fraud to produce a Kannada movie Akasha Gange in 2008, which flopped at the box-office.

Police said the gang created fake documents of a BDA property in Banashankari in 2006 and 2007, which belonged to one Muralidhar. The cheating came to light when Muralidhar applied for a loan, mortgaging the original documents of the site. He registered a complaint with the Grinagar police that was later transferred to the CCB police.

During the investigation, it was found that the accused had created four fake documents, each showing that one Yashoda had sold the site to D Nagaraj, Brendon Bento Mendanica, Anoop Justin and Suhas R Chouhan.

Police said the accused had borrowed huge amount, about Rs 20 crore, from various banks in Bangalore. Also, the accused financed film producers. The police suspect the role of officials of Sub-Registrar Office and bank employees.

Murder accused held

Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested two murder-case accused, one of whom had escaped from judicial custody on September 15.

Ravikumar (28), was arrested in Mysore. He is the prime accused in kidnap and murder case of Dr Sharath Kumar, which was reported this April. The other accused who was arrested, Sharan, is the brother of Ravi’s girlfriend.

The accused’s girlfriend, Sandhya alias Sanjana, and her father too Brahmachari too were arrested for allegedly giving him shelter.

CCB had arrested Ravikumar on April 13 along with Sanjana and five others. Ravikumar complained of stomachache and was admitted to Victoria Hospital jail inmates ward for treatment. On September 15, he bribed CAR constables C Vasudeva Murthy and B V Chidananda Murthy, who were guarding him at the hospital, and escaped from the custody. According to police, after escaping from the hospital, Ravikumar went to his aunt’s house in Sanjaynagar with the help of Sharan. There, Ravi’s cousin Nalini, with whom he allegedly had an illicit relationship, gave him Rs1 lakh. After that, he stayed at Sanjana’s residence in Vidyaranyapura for a few days.

The police nabbed Ravikumar in Mysore upon gathering information.
