BANGALORE: S K Nataraj, Mayor of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahangara Palike (BBMP) is ensuring to make an impact in his remaining days as a corporator. He has initiated a spate of development work, estimated to be costing Rs 2.5 crore in his home ward Sarakki.

Nataraj, accused of not initiating any specified works mentioned in the Bangalore Mahangara Palike budget, has ensured that his voters are content with development works as many new plans like commercial complex and an indoor stadium is scheduled in the ward.

The Palike presented a Rs 8,848 crore budget, but more than 8 months after it had been presented, no real work has been initiated.

The Mayor had earlier stated that only `500600 crore of the total budget would be a spill over, but all ongoing works would also be counted in the same category.

Flayed

Opposition leader in the Bangalore Mahangara Palike M Nagaraj said that the Mayor could have engraved his name in 'history', by doing good and commendable services to the city, instead he would now be known for not implementing any work during his tenure as the Mayor of Bangalore city.

He had even challenged the Mayor to show one development work initiated by him during council meets to which there were many screams, but not a single piece of evidence to prove him otherwise.

Nagaraj and Janata Dal (Secular) floor leader Padmanabha Reddy had both said in unison that the ruling BJP would not even be able to initiate ten per cent of the proposed development works.

An eyewash?

Within the last month, there have been many initiatives of development works in the city as the Mayor's term was reaching an end, but these, as sources claimed, are an 'eyewash' and nothing more as they saw lack of intent with the same.

The Bangalore Mahangara Palike delayed the issuing of the work codes as well but ensured to tell the people that it would be given within a few days, a date that was missed in more than one occasion.

Nagaraj had relentlessly stated that the Mayor S K Nataraj and the ruling BJP were 'misleading' the people of the city, and with the state of affairs, it may actually be true.

However, the Mayor nor anybody from the ruling part have made any further comments on the issue.
