BANGALORE: We have heard of desktop, laptop and table-top. But sure enough, not about Coke Bottle Top. So what is this? It is typing on a computer keyboard by balancing it on top of a Coke bottle. And no one can do it better than Gautham.

The 33-year-old Bangalore Medical Centre employee holds the Limca record for continuously typing on the computer keyboard balanced on a two-litre Coke bottle for half-an-hour. Gautham’s dream is to set a Guinness World Record. He always had the fire within him to achieve something great. It was kindled to its maximum, after he represented Karnataka in a State-level martial arts competition during his childhood, winning two gold medals. He is a Black Belt in karate.

He kicked off his career as a computer trainer and started his own computer institute in 2000 in Bangalore. By the year 2002, he mastered the keyboard and became an expert in typing. Gautham was  then struck with the idea of performing the rare fete. He practiced for hours and  made it to the Limca Book of Records in 2002. He typed 2,212 words dictated to him, in thirty minutes with 99 per cent accuracy at a pace of 72 words per minute. Now, he is all geared up to create a Guinness World Record by harbouring another idea of typing ‘blindfolded’. Recently, he experimented this feat at the Press Club of Bangalore. He typed by listening to his recorded voice through a walkman. He typed non-stop for fifteen minutes at a speed of 58 words per minute with 99 per cent accuracy. State Bank of India along with Gautham’s sister sponsored him for the event. Gautham regrets that he does not have many sponsors.

Says Gautham, “My parents continuously encourage me. My sisters and brothers financially support me. Even my friends motivate me. I have already applied to the Guinness World Records. I’m sure with this much support, I can create a new world record”. The achiever ends his conversation by saying that he is interested in encouraging students to create such records in the future.
