BANGALORE: Sunkenahalli is probably one of the few wards in the city whose roads still have a thick shade of green canopy thanks to the trees on either side of the road. Some of the residents in this ward have been living here for years together now.

The people of this ward are quite satisfied by the civic work done by their local corporator, P N Sadashiva. They also say that the corporator and the residents here share a good rapport with each other. “If we have a problem, we know we can speak with him directly and he would hear us out,” says a resident of Sunkenahalli.

The ward has no civic woes like erratic water supply, dirty roads and garbage disposals. “We get a steady supply of clean water. Our area is swept on a daily basis as well and the garbage too is collected and disposed regularly,” says Sheela, a resident who has been living in Gouvipuram, a locality in the ward for all her life.

However some of the residents do have something to complain about, the underground drains. Unfortunately for them these drains get blocked every alternate month and as a result end up stinking. “We have expressed our grievances to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials about the same on a couple of occasions. However,  until and unless it is a major work that needs to be done with the drain, more often than not we end up getting it cleared or repaired by ourselves,” says Srinivasa Murthy, another resident of Gouvipuram.

As far as the other basic amenities are concerned, the ward has practically no issues. The roads are wide and well maintained. They are marked where ever required and are well light at night. The garbage is collected and disposed frequently. It one corner of the ward all the plastic waste is collected and packed in big gunny bags and later sold.

The local corporator, P N Sadashiva was not available for comments.
