BANGALORE: This year’s Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) will see 68,377 candidates vying for admissions into professional course.

As usual, non-Karnataka aspirants outnumber those from the state, with 49,105 other state candidates registering for the test as against 19,272 from Karnataka. As many as 20,194 candidates are from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh alone.

COMED-K Executive Secretary Dr S Kumar informed that past year 66,408 students - about 2,000 less than this year - had appeared for COMED-K UGET. He added that compared with last year, the number of students appearing for the engineering entrance test has come down by around 3,000.

As for seat allocation, COMED-K Chairman M R Jayaram said once the agreement with the government was through - after the state discloses the Justice B Padmaraj Commission report - there would be better clarity.

Professional course aspirants can take Physics and Chemistry papers between 10 am and 12 noon, mathematics from 2-3 pm, and Biology from 3.30-4.30 pm.

Overall, there are 106 centres across the state, out of which Bangalore alone has 79.

Earlier, the COMED-K had decided not to postpone the UGET, in the light of the re-examination of the All India Engineering Entrance Examination and the Armed Forces Medical College entrance test on Sunday.

“Nearly 68,000 candidates were likely to face, students for whom test admission tickets have already been dispatched, those who have made travel arrangements to reach their respective test centres and since necessary arrangements have been made for the conduct of the entrance test, COMED-K has decided not to postpone its exam,” Kumar had stated.
