BFlat and Radio Indigo will present Schizophonic at 8.30 pm on November 19. Schizophonic is an experimental electro-acoustic trio that brings together the sounds of funk, jazz, old-school hip-hop, afrobeat. From deep, dark Dub delays and Hip Hop turn-tablism to jazz piano and blues guitar licks off crackling LP's, all human-generated sound is fed into an electronic hive-mind that behaves intuitively and dramatically; in essence, a fourth member of the band. Schizophonic performances are unpredictable.
Schizophonic came together in September of 2010 and is based out of Nanaimo, BC. The band is made up of musicians from across the country that have made their way to the west coast to study and play music. Originally playing more experimental compositions and covers bordering on jazz/funk fusion, Schizophonic gradually refined their repertoire over the past year down to a more basic, funk rock sound. No two concerts are the same. The band works with a variety of people ranging from visual artists and designers to dancers and musicians, each performance being designed according to the venue. Schizophonic is operated by Aman Mahajan on electric piano, Arjun Chandran on electric guitar, Prashanth Pallemoni on turntables and Vandana Mohan on visuals.
