BANGALORE: A CD of the Kuvempu Kannada Thantramsha, a linguistic software developed by the Kannada University, Hampi, will be launched on Wednesday.

According to the varsity Chancellor Dr A Murigeppa, it would incorporate 10 million Kannada words. The university has been bringing out such software to enable compatibility among different software technologies. For instance, the Kuvempu Kannada Thantramsha has four keyboard layouts and four texttotext converters, in compliance with older version of Anu fonts, SRG and ShreeLipi.

"Since there is a lack of an extensive corpus of Kannada words, we were keen to bring this out. Former additional chief secretary Chiranjeev Singh will launch the software," said Murigeppa. Prominent Kannada literary personalities, such as Chandrashekar Kambar and Dr Nagabhushan, are expected to attend the launch event.

Designed in memory of the famous poet Kuvempu, the software is a sourceondemand, which can also be downloaded from the varsity's website. It has a converter for text compatibility, different types of fonts and border designs.

Apart from this, the Kannada University will also launch eight volumes of history of countries on Thursday. Murigeppa informed that the launch has been scheduled at the Central College at 6 pm and S S Shettar and Bangalore University ViceChancellor N Prabhudev would attend it.
