BANGALORE: Mytri Creations inaugurated their new project, Rabbi, a mega teleserial in Kannada on June 20. The chief guest of the evening was Justice M F Saldanha.

He said, "The content of the media in the present day was very strong, and affected human relationships in a very drastic and harmful way. Conflict, violence, and social aberrations were the focus of content, and this in turn had much impact on the social climate." He congratulated Mytri Creations team, led by producer-director Edward Shamprasad and Cynthia Stephen, for coming up with a mega teleserial with a storyline depicting a simple Indian family and focusing on positive social factors like peace, communal harmony, and a value-based life.

He recalled that Walt Disney, the animation pioneer, started his work to counter the effects of the false and destructive values being promoted by Hollywood of his day, despite discouraging remarks that there was no market for clean entertainment.

Prof Govind Rao, wellknown TV personality and senior intellectual and activist, also spoke on the occasion.

He plays a lead role in the serial and emphasised that the values based on Christ’s exemplary life was the backdrop of the storyline: peaceful co-existence, brotherhood, ethical living standards of common people.

He contrasted this with the kind of stories being churned out in the TV channels today where there was a focus on irrational beliefs and superstitious practices, horror and violence, which promoted an unscientific temper.

He felt that there was a need for the kind of content that was being planned by Mytri creations.

Dr Vasanth Renick, Karnataka Auxiliary Secretary of the Bible Society of India, said that the first teacher of the child was no longer the mother or the nursery school teacher — it was actually the TV in the home.

"There was need for providing a value-based entertainment and teaching through this very influential medium to the younger generation," he added.

The inauguration, held at HRD Building, CSI KCD Office Campus, Mission Compound, was attended by people from all walks of life. The serial is expected to run for 1000 episodes.

Mytri Creations has been involved in cultural productions such as theatre, kathakalakshepa, sound-and-light shows, and a film in Kannada entitled Yeradu Savira Varshagala Hinde, which was telecast on Chandana channel in 2009.
