

On the occasion of the 140th birth anniversary of philosopher Aurobindo, vedic scholars on Sunday appealed for a better understanding” of the Vedas.
Speaking during the release of the English translation of the four Vedas (Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharva) by R L Kashyap, Chancellor of the Sri Gurusarvabhowma Sanskrit Vidyapeeta Vadiraja R Panchamukhi said, “People seem to think that Vedas belong to the primitive ages and are barbaric. Vedas are not barbaric. Vedic chants are heard only during marriages or functions. This is a wrong notion and it has to change.”
Dr Panchamukhi said the Vedas must be read to inculcate the values and knowledge they possess. “The Vedas talk about the principles of economics, management, metallurgy, biology and so on,” he added. Besides the English versions of the four Vedas, the Shukla Yajur Veda (part one), Yoga Parampare and Kannada and Tamil versions of Rig and Yajur Vedas were released during Veda Sourabha, organised by Sri Aurobindo Kapali Sastry Institute of Vedic Culture. The T V Kapali Sastry Memorial Awards were presented to social worker Tejaswini Ananthkumar, vedic scholars N Vadirajacharya, Lakshmikanth N Hegde, K P Putturaya, Rajesh M R, A S Patil, Gururaj Katti, Chandrika Gururaj and S Satya Simha.
