I am a 24-year-old, shopaholic, fashion addict and a creative bee. I am from Bangalore, India. ‘Stilettos Diary’ primarily focuses on street style, vintage and affordable fashion for women. It is your pit stop for style tips, street fashion, designer collaborations and product reviews.

This is how fashion blogger Megha Varshini introduces herself on her blog ‘Stilettos Diary’.

Megha is one of the hundreds of bloggers in the country who is ruling the fashion space and is making ‘any fashionista worth her salt’ turn green (emerald green to be more specific) with envy!

They have literally turned the tables, as their stuff is in high demand and teenagers across urban India, who give a damn about fashion, wait for the sales to be announced on these blogs with bated breath. They even occupy the front rows of the leading Fashion Weeks, rubbing shoulders with ‘who’s who of the industry’ and are featured prominently on the guest list.

In the West, a lot of fashion bloggers (some of whom started their blogs randomly while still in school) have started their own labels and stores over time and have grown out to be well-known creative forces outside of the blogsphere with features and editorials in magazines, advertising campaigns and a even a clientele involving Lady Gaga!

Today there are  lot of well-known fashion bloggers who started blogs as photographers, designers and illustrators to promote their works and became famous on the other end of the spectrum.

Twenty five-year-old Bangalorean Ruhi Sheikh, who studied chartered accountancy and became a risk consultant, started her fashion blog, ‘Republic of Chic’ in January this year.

She started off with selling few designer pieces she had outgrown, which later grew into a full-fledged blog shop inspired by her travels.

Similarly, Dehra Dun-based Arpita Kala, who did her journalism course in Bangalore was known throughout her college days for her unusual sense of style. The 23-year-old says, “I love writing and was already active on an online fashion forum, where girls can display their styling skills. So, it was very natural for me to start fashion blogging. I had instances when people recognised me on the road from my blog and that makes me feel that I may be doing something right. And I love fashion.”

When we ask her about her personal style statement, she adds, “My fashion is like 50’s vintage marrying 70’s punk rock and having a 21st century Harajuku fashion baby. I don’t believe in easy fashion. Most of my clothes are thrifted or vintage.”

With more and more people wanting to look different from the rest and fashion realising its potential in India, these fashion bloggers are here to stay and rule our wardrobes.
