The High Court on Thursday directed  BBMP and  BWSSB not to disconnect water and sewage services of unauthorised buildings till the demolition of such buildings.

Justice Ram Mohan Reddy passed the order while hearing a petition filed by one Sumithra, a resident of Gayathrinagar accusing the BBMP and BWSSB of disconnecting the water and sewage connections in her building.

Counsel representing Sumithra stated that both the agencies had disconnected these two essential services without the taking statements from her. “It is illegal. Water gives life to human beings and the case is pending before the KAT. They have disconnected the water and sewage connections even before the judgment.”

Justice Reddy observed, “Disconnecting water and sewage connections by BBMP and BWSSB is illegal and the matter is also pending before the KAT. At this stage, they should not disconnect the essential services. The BWSSB should also not disconnect water  or sewage connections of the unauthorised buildings till the demolition of the buildings.”

Allocation of sites in ashraya layout stayed

The High Court on Thursday stayed the allocation or change in nature of the land until next hearing in connection with a case on Ashraya Layout in Katriguppe.

The petitioners alleged irregularities in construction of houses and distribution of sites.

A Division Bench comprising Justices Vikramajit Sen and B V Nagarathna heard the case filed by Y H Srinivas, who accused of Rajarajeshwarinagar MLA M Srinivas of irregularities. The petitioner said, “The government had notified seven acres of land near Hoskerahalli to construct houses for the poor. Later, the BBMP had come forward to take up the construction and distribution of houses.

However, the civic body backed out stating it could not construct houses. MLA Srinivas and his supporters formed a committee to construct houses on that land. He flouted all rules, as according to the rules, only 20-30 sites should be distributed. He, however, has allotted 30-40 sites to his supporters and is constructing houses.”
