The Software Development Institute (SDI) of Indian Air Force (IAF) completes 32 years of yeoman service to the nation.
The SDI traces its origin to Intertial Navigation and Attack System Integration Organisation, which was set up in 1980 for integration of Navigational and Weapon Systems on Jaguar aircraft.
When the IAF ventured into its modernisation programmes for the upgrades of its older fleet and systems, an in-house Software Support Centre (SSC) was formed, which was later renamed as SDI in 1992.
An official release issued as part of the Oct 8-IAF Day celebrations, said that SDI is the only organisation in the country developing mission planning and debrief systems for all types of aircraft.
“The effort of SDI has resulted in large savings to the exchequer," said Air Vice Marshal B K Sood, Commandant of SDI, Bangalore.
