The bandh was marred by instances of attacks on a few employees of a nationalised bank in the city. A mob threw stones on more than 29 buses and set fire to hordes of tyres in different parts of the city.
While most the banks remained closed, employees of Canara Bank head office near Town Hall were seen working as usual behind closed doors.
Kannada activists, who came to know about this, tried to enter the bank. However, police personnel convinced them and asked the bank employees to leave the premises. At this stage, the activists reportedly roughed up the employees and abused them. Some employees, on being questioned, revealed that they were forced to work on the bandh day by higher officials.
In the morning, a mob stoned 29 BMTC buses. These incidents, according to the Chief Traffic Manager C Nagaraj, took place at Majestic, Talaghattapura, Kothnur Dinne, Ramakrishna Ashram, South End, Mahadevapura, Domlur, Babasabpalya, KHB Colony, Guddadahalli, Magadi Toll Gate, Hesaraghatta and Kengeri. “There was no major damage recorded apart from the broken front wind shields,” he said.
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses were not spared.
