The alleged gang rape on the NLSIU student has become a precedent to the need for both security measures and awareness among people who visit isolated areas.

Joint Commissioner (Crime) B Dayananda has some advise to prevent being a victim of such incidents. Speaking to Express on Monday, he listed out a few dos and don’ts to ensure the safety of women during emergencies.

Avoid going to isolated places alone and without any reason. If going to such places is inevitable, please ensure that you are accompanied with your friends or family members.

If people are looking for privacy to talk important matters, then they can visit malls, hotels or safer places instead of going to forests or unknown areas.”

Before entering an unfamiliar area, people should do their homework about the place and the risk it involves. Avoid taking help from strangers.
