The One Man Inquiry Commission directed to probe into the allegations made against the Visvesvaraya Technological University(VTU) Vice-Chancellor is yet to submit its report to the Governor and Chancellor H R Bhardwaj.
The panel headed by Justice Abhay Gohil was supposed to submit the report about the allegations made against VC Dr H Maheshappa to the Governor in August, but the report has been delayed.
Some of the main allegations against the VC are false claims on the BE degree obtained by him, the number of PhD scholars and MTech students that he has guided, false information regarding the number of technical papers published by him and the alleged claims about the research projects, including DRDO projects.
A writ petition was filed against Maheshappa in the High Court alleging that he had obtained the position of Vice-Chancellor by falsely claiming that he passed BE (Mechanical Engineering) in first class when he had actually passed in second class. The court orderedan inquiry into the matter which was followed by the panel constituted by the retired judge Abhay Gohil. The commission constituted in February, was directed to submit its findings along with recommendations on the action to be taken was to be submitted within three months.
However, the panel sought six to eight months for the investigations. But despite granting more than six months, the commission has not made any efforts to submit the report.
When contacted, an official from Raj Bhavan, said, “The report by the Inquiry Commission headed by Justice Abhay Gohil has not been submitted to the Governor. There is no information when the final report will reach the Governor’s office”.
Dr Maheshappa was appointed Vice-Chancellor of VTU on June 30, 2010 for a period of three years and his tenure will end in June 2013.
