A new report on global internet trends in October says that India tops the world with the highest percentage of compromised computers in the world.
Internet security firm Commtouch, in its report titled ‘Internet Threats Trend Report - October 2012’ says India hosts 20.85 per cent of world’s spam sending ‘zombies.’
In computer science lingo, a zombie is a computer connected to the Internet that has been compromised by a hacker, computer virus or trojan horse and can be used to perform malicious tasks of one sort or another under remote direction.
In the worldwide zombie distribution, India is followed by Brazil with 8.37 per cent zombies and China with 7.52 per cent zombies.
According to the report, pharmacy continues to top the list of spam topics, while education and shopping websites were most likely to be compromised with malware. As of October 2012, the Internet world saw nearly 87 billion daily spam/phishing emails sent, which amounts to 74 per cent of all emails sent.
Also, 1.9 billion daily emails are sent with attached malware.
