The natural retention of breath

The vowel Aaaaa should begin as a loud guttural sound deep inside your chest. This should slowly move upwards to your throat and merge with the consonant Vuuuu with the volume and pitch rising and roll up to your lips to become the nasal half-consonant Mmmm.

* Now try it once more. Chant the Aaaaa in your chest low pitched and loud merging into the Vuuuu at your throat with the volume and pitch rising and smoothly rolling to the nose and lips to merge into Mmmm. Chant once more for the third time — AaaaaaVuuuuMmmmmm. That’s good.

* You can also go to my website www.shrinimishamba.org to listen to me chanting it and practice chanting Aum along with me until you have mastered it.

* Take a deep inhalation before you chant each time. Enjoy the natural retention of breath after you finish each Aum.

* Chant Aum 48 times in this way.

* As you chant, you discover that like the sound from a music player moves to the front, side and rear speakers and comes out to encompass the space around you, the power packed seed syllable ‘Aum’ that begins in your spiritual heart emerges from your lips and envelopes you as a powerful, vibrant surround sound.

It is before you, beside you, behind you, above you, below you… it is all around you.

You can feel it everywhere… the floor reverberates with it, your chair reverberates with it, every particle in the air reverberates with it… and every atom of your body reverberates with it. It fills you and surrounds you with pulsating divine energy. Every reverberation fills your heart with vibrations and these vibrations fill you with their symphony which is the divine melody and rhapsody of the soul.

As you keep chanting it, you don’t want to open your eyes… you are so content… you are so complete… you are so full of peace, joy and bliss.

*  As you chant it 48 times, if your mind slips into meditation in between, allow it to happen and resume the chanting when it resurfaces.

After you finish chanting it 48 times, allow yourself to sit still, bask in the bliss and meditate for a while.

* Now relax….Keep your eyes closed…You may experience a slight twinge or even feel a knot of pain on the right of your chest which is the seat of your spiritual heart. Don’t worry about it. It is caused by the block in your spiritual heart energy which has not yet dissolved completely.

Chanting ‘Aum’ everyday will soon dissolve that energy block.
