A teacher allegedly banged a Class III student’s head against the wall and broke his tooth on Tuesday, police said. The incident was reported at St Mary’s Public School on Queen’s Road in the city.

The boy, Mohammed Huzaif, lives in Shivajinagar with his father Mohammed Fayaz, a mechanic, and mother Umae Salma.

A police source said the incident took place when Huzaif’s Mathematics teacher Nirmala reprimanded him for not doing his homework. Nirmala first pulled him up by his ear. In the ensuing tussle, Huzaif’s face hit the wall first, resulting in the loss of a tooth. The boy was also not allowed to have lunch and was made to sit on the premises even after the classes were over. The police said Huzaif reached home around 4pm, later than usual.

When his parents went to the school, the authorities allegedly threatened them that Huzaif would be rusticated if they pursued the matter. The police have registered a case against Nirmala.
