BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Universities Non-Teaching Employees Confederation (KSUNEC) on Friday threatened to hold a protest on February 17 if their demands were not met. The members demanded that the 6th Pay Commission should be extended to the non-teaching staff as well.

Speaking to reporters here, M B Sajjan from Gulbarga University, said: “We will send a memorandum to the chief minister. There is grave difference between the salary that teachers get and we get.” Non-teaching staff from 20 universities across the state will sport black badges and hold a procession on their respective campus. In April, they will hold a nationwide protest in front of UGC office, asking them to look into their demands.

“Today, there are two universities- the one that shines and another that suffers. The one shining comprises teaching staff and other officials, whereas the other one comprises us,”  said Sajjan, adding that the UGC pay review committee ignored them while hiking salaries.
