A tribute paid to artist KK Hebbar

The three-day Art fest ‘Art Mantram KK Hebbar Festival 2012’ organised by ArtMantram and KK Hebbar Art Foundation kicked off on June 25th with the opening of exhibitions showcasing works of Dr. KK Hebbar and other artists at Chitrakala Parishath.

The second day of the festival witnessed the screening of two documentaries on KK Hebbar as a tribute to him at Alliance Francaise De Bangalore.

The other key highlight of the second day was an interactive session on ‘K.K Hebbar, Artist and Patriarch.’

The documentaries screened on KK Hebbar at Alliance Françoise De Bangalore included a Kannada documentary by Girish Kasaravalli and an English documentary made by the Hebbar Foundation.

The interactive session ‘KK Hebbar: Artist and Patriarch’ had participants like Shri Chiranjiv Singh, Shri S G Vasudev, Dr. Manu Baligar,  Rekha Rao (Artist and daughter of Shri K K Hebbar) and Smt Rajini Prasanna (Art Historian and daughter of Hebbar).

The highlight of the third and final day of the Hebbar Festival will be the presentation of the ArtMantram Achievement Awards for Women in the Arts and Letters, 2012 that will be held at National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), Palace Road.

Art Mantram has been honoring women for the last few years whose achievements have been exemplary in the field of art, music, dance and theatre.

Those who have been honoured in the past include the likes of Vani Ganapathy, Rashmi Hegde, Rekha Rao, Lalitha Ubhayakar, Poile Sengupta, Pushpa Dravid and Sara Arakkal.

This year the awardees are the renowned artist and sculptor, Anjolie Ela Menon, well-known writer Shashi Deshpande and the famous Veena exponent Suma Sudhindra.

There will also be the presentation of ArtMantram KK Hebbar Scholarships to art students from ArtMantram and Hebbar Foundation. The awards will be presented to students from Karnataka as well as from the rest of the country.
