Herons Cricket Club has produced some outstanding young talent over the years.

Their recent showpiece is the swashbuckling left-handed batsman Arjun Ashok Hoysala.

A prolific batsman and a useful right-arm off-break bowler, Arjun has represented Karnataka teams in all age groups from the under-15 to the under-22 levels.

Arjun is now focused on getting into the state senior team and from there into the zonal and national teams as well.

This dedicated cricketer has the determination to go the whole hog for he lives and breathes cricket.

From playing cricket in his backyard with his father Ashok, a state volleyball player, to turning up for the Herons Cricket Club and for the Accountant General’s Office Recreation Club in league cricket in the state, Arjun has come a long way. And he has no intention to stop till he achieves what he has set out to.

Arjun scored a career best knock of 233 not out, which inspired the Bangalore University to register a massive 260 runs victory over Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation University, Vaddeswaram, AP, in the South Zone inter-university Cricket Tournament at Surathkal.

Arjun enabled Bangalore to pile up 428 runs in 50 overs.

He faced the first and last ball of his team’s innings batting for more than 210 minutes facing 162 balls as he slammed 29 fours.

He ended up as the highest scorer in the inter-university tournament.

Arjun represented Bangalore University for three years in a row when doing his B Com from the Jain College. He later did his MBA from Surana College.

A product of the Bangalore Higher Secondary School, Arjun had a previous best of 157 against Bishop Cotton in the Parle Trophy in 2005.

Though he represented Belgavi Panthers in the Karnataka Premier League T20 tournament, Arjun is not enamoured by the shorter formats.

“My priority is to play for my state and my country. Though I enjoy playing any format, the IPL is not my priority,” asserted the 22-year-old Arjun.

“I used to play at home with my father. He felt that I could do well as I had the talent and enrolled me for the cricket camp conducted by SAI with Narayan Sir. He taught me a lot before I moved over to Herons and under K Muralidhara, my game really took off. I am here today only because of them,” said Arjun.

“I work hard and try to keep as fit as possible as fielding is very important in a match. I only hope and pray that my efforts will pay off,” said Arjun.
