

The Petitions Committee of the State Legislature has advised the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) commissioner to ensure better coordination among various departments to ensure balanced development of the city.
The Committee advised the commissioner to convene a meeting of all stakeholders including Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Bangalore Development Authority.
Former Law minister Suresh Kumar, who is a member of the Committee, told reporters on Friday, “We have instructed the additional chief secretary to convene a meeting of all the stakeholders regularly once in three months to take stock of all the ongoing development works being carried out by different agencies in the city.”
Expressing concern over the poor financial status of the BBMP, he said the committee has directed the Palike to submit a report on its finances.
“The committee had also directed the BBMP to take measures to improve its revenue collection, especially in mobilising property taxes,” he said.
Enforce Parking Policy: Chief Secy
Karnataka Chief secretary Kaushik Mukherjee strongly supported enforcing the parking policy in the city to avoid haphazard parking of vehicles in the BBMP’s areas.
Speaking at a meeting of the Petitions Committee of the Karnataka legislature here on Friday, Mukherjee instructed BBMP Commissioner M Laxminarayana to take measures to implement the parking policy after taking BBMP corporators and the city legislators into confidence.
“The move will also help to mobilise more revenue, which would be available for the city’s developmental works,” he said.
Banks Seek Time to Install Alarms
Bangalore: Bankers who have been asked to ramp up security arrangements in their respective ATMs have sought more time to install alarms, City Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar informed the Petition Committee of the Legislative Assembly. Making a submission before the Committee here on Friday, the city’s top cop said the banks have downed shutters of over 400 ATMs in the city for not deploying security personnel. This comes after strict guidelines were issued by the police.
