Carnatic musicians Padmini (61) and Lalitha (61), who were twins, died in the Bangalore-Nanded train accident, said their relative Harish Kumar at Victoria on Saturday.

“They came together and left us together,” he added. Padmini and Lalitha were going for a concert in Raichur and had boarded the train. Padmini’s husband Narahari Rao survived the mishap. The victims were identified by a locket and foot ring, found on their bodies, by their elder sister Gayathri, at Anantapur, added Kumar.

Colleagues of Aniruddha Kulkarni (24), a software engineer working at IBM who had gone to Nanded, were totally lost as to what might have been the fate of their friend. “We saw the incident on TV and rushed here,” said Deeptesh Sahu, a friend of Aniruddha. Aniruddha’s colleagues had informed his parents early in the morning when they saw the news.

Kamaljeet Singh, an administrative officer at New India Insurance, had plans to visit the Gurudwara in Nanded with his family.

He along with his wife Balveer Kaur and daughter Amaan Kaur, whose tickets were confirmed at the last minute, left for Nanded.

Both Kamaljeet Singh and his wife had a seat in the fatal B1 coach and Amaan had her seat in a different coach. However Amaan switched seats with Kamaljeet, wanting to sleep with Balveer, not knowing what was in store for them.

Both mother and daughter died, confirmed employees of New India Insurance. Kamaljeet survived and is safe, they added.
