Indian classical dance is an expression of life’s variegated moods and speaks through manifold rhythmic patterns, melodic gestures and subtle facial expressions.

These forms create a world of ecstasy and ethereal existence. A unique presentation of Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi jugalbandi, Nritya Milana will be presented by Anuradha Vikranth and Shama Krishna at Alliance de Francaise Bangalore on March 2.

The event focuses on bringing two divergent forms together. The aim is to see commonalities and meeting points. In ‘Nrityamilana’ one can see the Bharatanatyam style known for its technique and tradition; clarity and composition and the technique of Kuchipudi which makes use of fast rhythmic foot work and sculpturesque body movements.

The charis and karanas have also been adopted to bring out the similarities between both the styles.

Anuradha Vikranth is a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer. Passionate about Bharatanatyam and noted for her grace, she believes that dance is a powerful medium of expression that transforms the dancer into a totally different person on stage. Trained in Bharatanatyam by Guru Nirupama Rajendra and Guru Narmada, Anu has broadened her perspective of dance, which she evinces in her artistic venture. She has had the privilege to have honed her art through the training received by the well known Guru’s,  Professor  C V Chandrashekar, Guru Kalanidhi Narayan, Guru Padma Subramanyam, Guru Priyadarshini Govind, and Guru Savitri Jagannath by attending their workshops. Anu's performances have always enthralled art lovers, connoisseurs of dance and critics from all over India and abroad.

Shama hailing from Bangalore is one of the foremost performing artistes of classical dance in India. Shama began training in Bharatanatyam at the age of seven from Guru Kalamanadalam Usha Datar. She completed her proficiency level examination in Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Guru Sanjay Shantaram and has also had the privilege of training under the expertise of Guru Narmada and Guru Bhanumati.

Shama is a well trained Kuchipudi performer trained by Karnataka Kalashree Guru Veena Murthy Vijay. She has given numerous performances all over India and abroad in both Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi styles.

With a teaching experience of over 15 years she has trained more than 150 students in dance and choreographed several dance dramas and song features for television.

Shama's quest for knowledge and dedication led her to Guru Sundari Santhanam, a direct disciple of Dr Padma Subramanyam for intense training in Karanas from natya shastra. Shama has evolved as a consummate dancer by enhancing her dancing skills through workshops conducted by gurus like Dr C V Chandrashekar, Dr Padma Subramanyam, Braga Basil, Raja Reddy and Savitri Jagannath.
