Recall the popular Kannada song 'Agumbeya Prema Sanjeya', sung by actor Dr Rajkumar? The background of the song features one of the best tourist spots in Karnataka, the Barkana waterfalls and Narasimha Parvata.

Barkana is just seven kilometres away from Agumbe.

Trekking enthusiasts can go for a steep trek from the Western Ghats through Gumbo Ghats to reach the fall.

Those interested in reaching the waterfall on motorbike can use the motorable path that reaches the falls.

My trip to Agumbe was a memorable one as I got a chance to visit Barkana, one of the highest waterfalls in India, at a height of 850 feet. The waterfalls derives its name from the word, 'Baraka', which means the mouse deer that inhabits the region.

During my second visit to Barkana recently, I decided to take the motorable path.

After my first visit, over nine years ago, I had almost forgotten the route to reach the destination.

As I started exploring my way out in a narrow, unasphalted lane, I found the path that led to the waterfalls.

The path was uneven; I rode the bike at a medium pace and found a fallen tree on my way.

So I parked the bike near a tree and took a walk.

Just 10 feet ahead was the mesmerising Barkana waterfalls.

The beauty of the waterfalls is unimaginable.

The serene ambience on top of the hill is refreshing.

The clear and cold water flowing through the green bed of trees of Narasimha Parvata was spellbinding.

The falls is surrounded by the dense Western Ghat forest.

As it was early winter, it was a perfect weather to enjoy the ambience which is far away from urbanisation.

This waterfalls derives its name from the word, 'Baraka', which means the mouse deer that inhabits the region.

Do not miss to visit Barkana waterfalls, to explore the untapped beauty of nature here.
