Early this year, City Express had reported how the South-Western Railway Division in Bangalore is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the safety of women in trains and railway premises and thereby, introducing a 24/7 helpline 9731666725 for women. Now the authority has kick started the awareness campaign for the women’s helpline.
On March 14, Margaret Alva, Governor of Rajasthan, came down to Bangalore city railway station to popularise the women security 24X7 help line number. She personally went through many compartments and put up many stickers that displayed the number of the helpline. Speaking to City Express, S Louis Amuthan, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force said, “We had already put up hoardings in many places. However, we started putting up stickers on the compartments from March 14. We have put up the stickers in many trains and the process is going on. After the initiative we have been receiving many phone calls pertaining to various issues.” In fact, on March 14, a lady was able to get treatment at the correct time due to the helpline. At about 10 pm, one lady Passenger by name Rajeshwari, wife of Rajashekar, aged about 25 years, from Gulbarga District came along with her husband to the booking counter situated on platform number 8 of Bangalore City Railway Station to purchase a general ticket from Bangalore City to Gulbarga. She was pregnant and all of a sudden she started bleeding and began screaming for help. One co-passenger Dr Shaheeda who was nearby immediately called up RPF women passengers help line [9731666725] on seeing the pamphlet/poster exhibited near the booking counter, seeking immediate assistance. The RPF women passengers help line immediately passed on the information to the Railway Duty Doctor at Railway Hospital, Bangalore City and also alerted 108 for ambulance services. The Duty officer of Railway Protection Force, Dr Shanthi, Senior Divisional Medical Officer, Railway Hospital, Bangalore, rushed to the spot and attended to the lady passenger who was bleeding and immediately rendered first-aid. Asst. Sub-Inspector/ RPF, C Rajanna also rushed to the spot with staff to render necessary assistance. Meanwhile, with the ambulance arriving on the spot, the pregnant lady passenger along with her husband was moved to Government Vani Vilas Hospital for further treatment.
