Need docking stations for cycles

After the launch of ‘Hire A Bicycle’ facility at Namma Metro stations, there has been a demand from Bangaloreans to set up docking stations in other parts of the city as well. Interestingly, it has been more than three months, but the cycles are mostly used for leisure rather than a mode of commutation, which was the main motive behind its launch.

Speaking to City Express, Srinidhi Srinivas, one of the directors of Bicycle Sharing System, said, “We are talking with different authorities to bring up docking stations in places like Commercial Road and Shivajinagar. This has to be done in conjunction with authorities like BBMP and BMTC. So, people going to Commercial Road need not necessarily come back to the docking station at MG Road, they can leave the cycles there and head off to their next destination.”

The usage of cycles are mostly before 9 am and post 6 pm. In fact, many are also seen cycling inside cubbon park, early in the morning. Currently, there are docking systems in each metro stations. Considering the fact that the success of the sharing system will work only if the proximity of docking stations and the number of docking stations is increased, it is highly recommendable to set up more stations.  The bicycle sharing system was launch in way back 2011 on a pilot basis system with an aim of solving the issue of last-mile connectivity for other public transport such as the BMTC and Metro.
