Two die as car falls off Mahadevapura flyover

A joy ride turned tragic when an overspeeding Maruti Zen car toppled on a busy highway (NH-48) in Mahadevapura near Nelamangala on Friday night killing two people on the spot. Two others were critically injured in the accident.

Police said the car fell from the flyover after ramming into the road divider. The deceased are Vanaraju (42) and Puneeth (25) and the injured are Lakshman (26) and Chetan Kumar (26), all residents of Gowdanahalli near Nelamangala and employees of a private firm.

Police said the incident occurred around 11 pm when they were retuning from Kunigal after attending a party. Lakshman, who was driving the car at high speed, lost control of the vehicle soon after reaching the Mahadevapura flyover. He crashed the car into the divider and it fell from a height of 20 feet, police added.

The injured were immediately rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared Vanaraju and Puneeth brought dead. The condition of Lakshman and Chetan Kumar is serious, police said. Nelamangala Rural police are awaiting the medical report to ascertain if it was a case of drunken driving or sheer reckless driving.

Similar Accident

Earlier, on April 11, in a similar accident, four students of Christ College had died when their speeding Scorpio rammed into an oncoming lorry on Hosur Road near Hebbagodi soon after they reached the Chandapura flyover. Three students were killed on the spot while another sustained severe injuries.
