Helping art survive the years

Helping art survive the years

If you have lived in Bangalore long enough and if you have a cultural bend, then you sure must know about INTACH's Parichay.

For the benefit of the uninitiated, INTACH’s Bangalore chapter, which is leading the heritage renaissance in the city, organises monthly walks called Parichay.

This time, instead of focussing on structural heritage, INTACH will discuss conservation of material heritage. Hence, the latest edition of Parichay is on art conservation.

For those who would be interested in preserving a memory long frozen in a photograph or a family heirloom painting passed on through generations, here is an insightful opportunity.

This Parichay will be led by Madhu Rani, director of ICKPAC,  the Art Conservation Centre in Chitrakala Parishath. Rani specialises in the conservation of works of art on paper, but she has also worked on the conservation of temple murals, oil paintings, manuscripts and plenty more.

Parichay will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 25, at ICKPAC. The duration would be about two hours.

Speaking to City Express, Rani said, “The idea is to initiate the right practices on restoration and conservation. There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding it. Therefore, there is  need for awareness and the need to dwell more on the philosophy behind restoration and conservation.”

Unfortunately, registrations for Parichay are now closed. However, those who may want more details on the activity can mail
