The BWSSB Chairman Gauvrav Gupta asked the team of officials from Singapore to prepare an action plan to successfully reclaim, recycle and reuse the used water in Bangalore City on Monday.
Speaking at a workshop jointly organised here by the BWSSB and Singapore Cooperation Enterprise, Gupta said, “We need specific plans for developing capabilities to use treated sewage as a sustainable source of water. We have to emulate Singapore and other countries on loss reduction and leakage control of water.”
Gupta also said that it is necessary to carry out Public out reach programs six months prior to the implementation of recycle and reuse project. People have accepted the concept of recycle and reuse of reclaimed water to some extent and it is feasible. We have to work on the safety measures that are to be implemented before undertaking the project.
BWSSB and Singapore Cooperative Enterprise entered into MOU for developing capabilities for alternate sources of water through recycle and reuse of reclaimed water in Bangalore on October 9, 2012.
Three workshops—two in Bangalore and one in Singapore—have already been conducted to educate the BWSSB officials about the various aspects of recycling and reusing of used water.
The fourth and fifth workshop is being conducted in Bangalore between May 27 and 30. Technical issues related to feasibility of the project would be discussed in the first two days of the workshop and last two days would be dedicated to discuss the various means to educate the public with the involvement of the NGOs.
Waste water experts Lee Tuck Wal and Mr John Poom would be addressing the workshop.
