The BBMP has denied the death of a 52-year-old woman in Bangalore was caused due to dengue.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike chief health officer Dr T Devaki Umesh said, “We have instructed all private hospitals to keep the BBMP in the loop whenever any dengue case is reported. As of now, 65 cases have been recorded since January.”She said the BBMP will take up a house-to-house mosquito control drive. “A team of five, comprising a senior or junior health inspector along with two gang-man and two nursing students, will go from house to house starting June 1,” she said.
BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah told reporters that 14 dengue cases were detected in the city. “I have directed our officials to take all precautionary measures to control dengue. There is no shortage of funds, foggers, sprayers and man power,” he said. However, he added: “Fogging cannot be done frequently as it can cause an allergy for children and old people.”
He also said that they are doing a door-to-door survey to identify dengue cases. “We have identified breeding places. I have directed the authorities concerned to destroy larva and avoid breeding of aedes aegypti mosquitoes, which are responsible for the spread of dengue,” he added.Further, Siddaiah said that the BBMP is also planning to have its own dengue laboratory diagnosis centre. “It costs around Rs 20 lakh and I approved the amount on Tuesday,” he said.
2,590 cases recorded since January
Since January, the state health department recorded 2,590 suspected cases of dengue. Out of this, 2,046 cases were sent for the Mac Elisa test and 646 cases returned positive. Only two deaths were reported from Mysore region. Shimoga District recorded the highest with 87 cases, followed by 65 in the BBMP area, Bellary with 58, Mysore 57, Davangere 44 and Dakshina Kannada with 32 cases.
Siddu asks officials to be vigilant
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said he has instructed officials to ensure that dengue-causing mosquito breeding is checked. He has directed the Departments of Revenue, Health and Municipal Administration to work in tandem to deal with the situation.
