The Doddballapur Rural police are investigating the case of a semi-nude dance party which was allegedly held at a resort near Ghati Subrahmanya temple in Doddballapur.
On Tuesday, activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV) Shivarame Gowda’s faction exposed a DVD showing women dancing in an obscene manner, which was broadcast on private Kannada news channels. According to them, the ‘Nanga Naach’ party was held at the resort on December 29 last year.
They claimed that the event was held at S R Valley Resort situated on Hindupur highway near Doddaballapur, about two-and-half km from the popular Ghati Subramanya temple. However, it is not known why they delayed handing over this DVD to the police for investigation.
The DVD shows over 12 girls wearing skimpy clothes and dancing in front of a group of men. Some men were seen consuming liquor and dancing with the girls. The party, which was reportedly held at midnight, went on till morning. The KRV activists got the DVD from a local youth who attended the party and recorded the dance from his hidden video recorder.
Speaking to Express, KRV secretary Praveen Shetty said that more than 30 girls who were filmed in the video, are mostly from Andra Pradesh. Around 200 men witnessed this ‘Nanga Naach’ which is famous in North Indian states. “Such parties are held regularly at the resort and only a few ‘regular’ customers are informed about the party by the organisers. Exorbitant gate fee is collected to witness this,” he said.
“Our activists were harassed whenever they asked the police why no action was initiated. The locals who tried to file a case, repeatedly approached the local police, but when they did not get any response and the police declined to file a complaint, they handed over the DVD to us. Then, we sent the video footages to the superintendent of police and local police after sending it to television channels,” Shetty claimed.
Speaking to reporters, IGP (Central Range) Amar Kumar Pandey said, “We are investigating the case. I have asked for a detailed report about this incident. Action will be taken after the report is submitted.”
Police said that in 2010, the resort’s owner had filed a similar complaint with the local police and later he had sacked his manager for organising such parties. “After that, we have not received any such complaints,” he said.
Meanwhile, KRV activists demanded the police to book the resort authorities under Goonda Act as they had brought those girls and used them for obscene dancing.
