Nagaratna (52), a resident of Kudalur in Channapatna taluk, died due to suspected dengue at a private hospital in Bangalore on Tuesday. Besides this, 14 cases of dengue were reported in Bangalore.

According to the victim’s family, Nagaratna showed symptoms of dengue and was admitted to a private clinic in Channapatna six days ago. She was taken to Rajarajeshwari Hospital in Bangalore, shifted to Victoria Hospital, KIMS and later to Shekhar Hospital in Basavanagudi on Monday.

“Nagaratna was bleeding from her eyes and nose for a few days. At around 11 am she died,” a relative said.

Authorities at Shekhar Hospital told Express that the death was caused due to dengue and that they have sent the case details to the BBMP health inspector. A copy will also be sent to NIMHANS for further confirmation, they said.

The BBMP and the state’s heath department,  however, denied the death was caused due to dengue.

Health and Family Welfare director Dr Dhanya Kumar said, “The department has not got any such report on Tuesday. If at all any dengue death is reported, the blood samples have to be sent to the National Institute of Virology, Hyderabad, for the Mac Elisa test, which is the standard procedure for confirmation.”

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike chief health officer Dr T Devaki Umesh said the Palike will soon take up a house-to-house mosquito control drive.
