

With the weatherman predicting that the South-west monsoon will hit Kerala by Sunday, most parts of the state witnessed pre-monsoon showers on Wednesday and Thursday.
Pre-monsoon showers accompanied by squalls lashed the city on Thursday evening bringing some relief to the residents to the city.
By 11.30 pm, the city recorded 30.4 mm rainfall and the HAL Airport recevived 6.4 mm.
“With the monsoon advancing in the Maldives region, the South-west monsoon is expected to hit Kerala by Sunday. Heavy rain with thunderstorms, marked with cloudy weather is likely to continue for the next couple of days,” a Meteorological Department official said.
The official further added that the city will be generally cloudy with one or two spells thunder showers in some parts. The maximum temperature will hover around 31 degree celsius and the minimum 22.4 degree celsius on Friday.
Meanwhile, heavy to widespread rainfall was also witnessed in other parts of the state. According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) at Mandapur in Raichur recorded the highest rainfall of 108 mm between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
“Moderate to heavy rain was also registered in Gulbarga, Yadgir, Belgaum, Bidar and Raichur districts and fairly widespread rainfall was received in Koppal, Dharwad, Bijapur and Bagalkot districts”, a KSNDMC report stated.
Heavy rain is expected in the next two days in parts of South Karnataka (Mysore, Mandya), North Karnataka (Bellary, Raichur and Koppal) and Coastal and Malnad regions. In Raichur taluk, Raichur city received 49 mm rainfall, Yermarus 53.8 mm, Jegarkal 38.2 mm and Kalmala 35.8 mm rainfall.
