The CATC Cum IGC/RDC Training Camp was conducted by 1(TN) Armed Squadron NCC at Soka Ikeda College of Arts & Science College for Women, Madhanangkuppam, from September 6-15.

A total of 546 cadets from various colleges and schools including D G Vaishnav College, Pachiyappa’s College, New College and Alpha Arts & Science College participated. Schools including Don Bosco Higher Sec School, Velamal HSS, St Paul’s HSS, Kerala Vidyalayam HSS, Kendria Vidyalaya Anna Nagar, and various units from 1(TN) Girls, 1 (TN) Bn NCC, 10 (TN) Bn NCC participated.

Lt Col Ajay Dhawan, OC, 1(TN) Armd Sqn NCC, was the camp commandant. In his open address, Dhawan asked the NCC Cadets to be punctual and said that there will be Firing, Drill Competition, Guard of Honor Competition and Cultural Competition during the camp.

Daily activities of the camp included PT, drill or firing practice, lectures on various subjects like Health and Hygiene, National Integration, Know your country, Military subjects and games.

Capt Dr S Santhosh Baboo ANO, D G Vaishnav College spoke to the cadets on September 8 about health and hygiene.

The firing competition was conducted on September 12 for cadets while the guard of honor competition and drill competition was conducted the next day.

The cadets planted trees in the premises of Soka Ikeda College in the presence of Lt Col Dhawan and Dr Rani Christhu Dhas, Principal of the college.

The closing ceremony was conducted on Saturday where Dr Sethu Kumanan Chairman, Soka Ikeda College, was the chief guest and distributed the prizes. In his address he said that the students were fortunate to select NCC instead of other extracurricular activities. The NCC plays a vital role in nation building and said that the development of India was in the hands of the youth. The best volunteering went to D G Vaishnav College’s Armed NCC unit.

The cadets performed cultural activities.

Dr Rani Christhu Dhas was the guest of honour. The IGC/RDC Contingents were trained during the camp and presented the cultural programme during the closing ceremony. The Madras Group “A” Contingent will be attending the IGC/RDC Camp at Yadava College Madurai in October 2013.
